Sun Spots

My current favorite picture. Who knew that Van Gogh was an astronomer? http://bellman.astro.su.se/solar/NatureNov2002/images/c4877_color.tif (warning, very large TIFF image, but so very worth it)

Here's a GIF version -- also huge -- 2009x1924 pixels, but worth the download. Imagine: the large sunspot depicted is roughly the same diameter as the Earth.

The whole site is worth exploring. Especially this QuickTime movie.
