March 05, 2004Media SpinInteresting media spin going on right now.MARTHA STEWART CONVINCTED ON ALL COUNTS, the headlines are blaring across the world. But, it's not all counts. Just the other day, the most severe "count", the securities-fraud charge, was dropped by U.S. District Judge Miriam Goldman Cedarbaum. Had Stewart been convincted of that charge, she faced up to ten years in prison. What remains is, what, a relative slap on the wrist? Comments
"The eight women and four men found Stewart guilty of one count of conspiracy, two counts of making false statements, and one count of obstruction of agency proceedings in her trial over a suspicious sale of stock in ImClone Systems Inc., according to Reuters. Stewart will be sentenced on June 17; each count carries a possible prison term of five years and a $250,000 fine." Not exactly a slap on the wrist, Brian.
